Dr Amit Maydeo is a surgeon by training from the University of Mumbai, India.
After training in surgical oncology and GI Surgery, Dr Maydeo was trained at the University hospital of Hamburg, Germany under Prof. Nib Soehendra from 1986 to 1991.
Dr Maydeo is presently the Chairman of the Baldota Institute of Digestive Sciences at the Global hospital in Mumbai, India.
He has been the pioneer in Therapeutic GI Endoscopy in the Indian subcontinent over the past 30 years.
He has been the past president of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India and is presently the founder Chairman of the newly founded Association of Interventional GI Endoscopy Foundation.
Dr Maydeo has done original work on the treatment of Variceal GI bleeding, Treatment of Chronic pancreatitis and stones and Endoscopic treatment of large CBD stones.
Dr Maydeo has been the first to introduce the POEM & STER procedures for Achalasia cardia and submucosal tumors in India and the treatment of early cancers or large polyps in the colon by ESD or EMR. Dr Maydeo has also been the pioneer in Bariatric endoscopy in India and has recently launched the procedure of endoscopic sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) in India.
He is on the International editorial board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) / Endoscopy (ESGE) and is also the Co-Editor in Endoscopy International Open journal.
Dr Maydeo has received many awards over the past 27 years and in 2013 he was awarded the Padmashri which is one of the highest civilian awards for outstanding service in the field of medicine from the President of India.
Dr Maydeo has also been awarded a winner in the 1st World Cup of Endoscopy held in Chicago during the DDW.
Dr Maydeo runs the Endoscopy Gurukul in Mumbai for training young endoscopists from India and abroad.

Dr. Amol Bapaye is Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist and Chief of Shivanand Desai Center for Digestive Disorders, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center, Pune, India. He is member of the ASGE, ESGE, ISG, SGEI and AIGE; and has been awarded the FASGE, FJGES, FSGEI and FAIGE. A surgeon by training, his clinical and research interests include advanced ERCP, interventional EUS, and endoscopic resections including EMR / ESD, Third Space Endoscopy and Endotherapy for GERD.
Dr. Bapaye was selected as ASGE Ambassador (2015) for the ASGE International Training program. He serves on the International Editorial Board of Endoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound and Journal of Digestive Endoscopy. He is an active member of the ASGE International Committee. He has been the recipient of the – ‘Pioneer in Gastroenterology Award (2014)’ conferred by the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO).
Dr. Bapaye is the Founder and Managing Trustee of ‘Foundation for Research and Education in Endoscopy (FREE)’ – a non-profit organisation that supports training and research in endoscopy. He has organised several national and international meetings and workshops as Course Director. A passionate teacher, he actively conducts endoscopy training programs for ERCP, EUS and Third Space Endoscopy. He has lectured extensively at several international and national conferences and has performed several live endoscopy demonstrations.
Dr. Bapaye has authored 135 peer reviewed publications and conference papers and is the author and co-editor of the textbook – ‘Practical Handbook of Endoscopic Ultrasonography’. He has also contributed to several other book chapters. He has reported pioneering work in the area of Third Space Endoscopy – role of G-POEM and PREM for treatment of gastroparesis and Hirschsprung’s disease.

Douglas K. Rex, M.D. is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Indiana University School of Medicine and a full-time clinical gastroenterologist at Indiana University Hospitals. He chaired the U.S. Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer from 2000-2006 and 2012-2018. Professor Horst Neuhaus is Chief of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Düsseldorf. The endoscopy unit is one of the WEO Centers of Excellence and training center of the ESGE. He has a wide field of clinical and scientific interests that include diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, biliary and pancreatic diseases and endoscopic management of early gastrointestinal neoplasms. He was previously President of the ESGE and has served as councillor of the Governing Board and the Scientific Committee of the UEG. He has been director of the annual Düsseldorf International Endoscopy Symposium which was established by his group in 1999.

Jacques Bergman was born in 1965 and qualified from the University of Utrecht in 1991. He undertook his PhD-training, dedicated to the endoscopic management of gallstone disease, in Amsterdam. He was trained in Gastroenterology in Den Bosch and Amsterdam and was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist, at Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam in 2001, as Associate Professor in 2005, and as Head of department of Endoscopy and Professor of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2011.
Jacques Bergman leads a variety imaging studies on detection of early neoplasia in the upper GI tract. Techniques that are currently under investigation include high resolution endoscopy, optical chromoscopy, volumetric laser endomicroscopy, and spectroscopy techniques. His group also investigates computer assisted endoscopic detection of early neoplasia as part of a consortium with the Technical University Eindhoven and 15 leading endoscopy centers in Europe.
In addition, his group has a strong focus on the endoscopic treatment of early neoplasia using endoscopic resection and endoscopic ablation techniques as well as in organizing training programs in this field (www.barrett.nl and www.best-academia.eu).
The group also facilitates basic research on biomarkers in Barrett’s esophagus; epithelial differentiation, morphogenesis and pathogenesis in Barrett’s esophagus; gene therapy and dendritic cell therapy for esophageal cancer; and proteomics in Barrett’s esophagus.
Jacques Bergman leads ReBus: a large tissue bank project that incorporates clinical data and tissue samples of 1,000 patients treated for early Barrett‘s neoplasia; 3,500 Barrett‘s surveillance patients in the Amsterdam region; 1,500 proscpectively followed Barrett‘s patients in the Amsterdam Prospective Barrett‘s Registration Project; and 750 Barrett‘s patients with low-grade dysplasia.
Jacques Bergman is also involved in studies investigating the use of duodenal mucosal ablation for metabolic regulation (diabetes mellitus and NAFLD/NASH) in which he collaborates with endocrinologists and hepatologists at the AMC and a number of European institutes.
The team currently consists of two physicians/endoscopists, 18 clinical research fellows, three research nurses, and 2 physician assistants. The group has extensive experience with clinical trials and is trained according to GCP standards. The team coordinates several international multi-center studies.
Dr Bergman is the special section editor of Gastroenterology in Motion of the journal Gastroenterology. He is a member of the International Editorial board of “Gastrointestinal Endoscopy” and member of the International Editorial board of “Endoscopy”.

Dr. Bergman is a permanent member of International Working Group on Classification of Oesophagitis.

Dr. Bergman has authored and co-authored on over 350 peer reviewed publications and text book chapters and has lectured at many national and international meetings. His Hirsch-index is currently 65.

Jacques DEVIERE is the chairman of the Medical-Surgical Departement of Gastroenterology, Hepatopancreatology and Digestive Oncology at Erasme University Hospital and Ordinary Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Gastroenterology at the University Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium.
He is past president of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and co-founded the Brussels Medical Devices Center (BMDC) and 2 start-up companies from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Endotools Therapeutics and Lys Medical).

He authored or co-authored more than 540 pubmed referenced publications, 42 international patents, has 40 000 Google Scholar citations and a H Index of 107 (Google Scholar)

Kenneth F Binmoeller, MD is the Director of Interventional Endoscopy Services (IES) at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. His training and professional positions have been split between the United States and Europe. He attended medical school at the University of Freiburg in Germany and the University of Bern in Switzerland, followed by internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and gastroenterology fellowship training at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. He held faculty appointments at the CHR Cimiez in Nice, France (1990-1991) , University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany (1991-1998), and UCSD Medical Center in San Diego (1998-2001). Dr Binmoeller holds over 50 patents for innovative endoscopic technologies. He is the inventor of the AXIOS lumen-apposing stent and electrocautery-enhanced delivery system. He has authored more than 200 publications and several books. He has trained and mentored endoscopists from all corners of the world. In 2013 the ASGE honored Dr Binmoeller with the Master Endoscopist of the Year Award.

Marianna Arvanitakis finished her medical degree in 1997 in Brussels, Université Libre de Bruxelles, and pursued her fellowship in Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology. She has been working in the Erasme University Hospital since 2002, where she has a position of full professor since 2018. She is head of the Clinic of Pancreatology and Clinical Nutrition. She presented a PhD thesis focused on diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic diseases in 2007. Her main clinical and research interest are pancreatic diseases, clinical nutrition, and therapeutic endoscopy. She has 118 publications in Pubmed with 3520 citations and a H-index of 28. She has an active role in the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) Governing Board as the individual member representative since 2014 and as the chair of the Education Committee since 2018. She has been part of numerous ESGE guidelines and is in the Editorial Board of the journal Endoscopy. She is also member of in the UEG scientific committee since 2014 and chair of the postgraduate teaching (PGT) course. She is also an active member of the European Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ESPEN), of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).

Dr. Martin Dib graduated from medical school at University of Chile, after which he did a 2-year Research Fellowship in Liver Regeneration at Harvard University. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard University and his Clinical Fellowship in Abdominal Organ Transplant and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery at University of Toronto. He worked as a Transplant Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and in 2018 moved back to Chile to develop a Live Donor Liver Transplant Program in Latin America and is currently the Chief of Transplant at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.

Dr. Mouen Khashab is a Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is the Director of Therapeutic Endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Johns Hopkins. He is nationally and internationally known in the field of interventional endoscopy and has contributed immensely in recent years to the advancement of interventional endoscopy as a minimally invasive means to treat various gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary disorders. He is also a very busy researcher and has been very industrious in the field publishing more than 490 papers in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Khashab was awarded a Master Endoscopist recognition by the ASGE in 2022 (MASGE) Dr. Khashab is a highly-sought after speaker at national and international conferences and has participated in multiple live endoscopy conferences. His major interest is in new technology and medical devices and he directs the animal research laboratory at Hopkins, which is dedicated for these purposes. Dr. Khashab is involved with multiple gastrointestinal societies and has served on many committees including the Standard of Practice committee of The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), which is in charge of formulating practice guidelines for the practice of endoscopy. Dr. Khashab has also served as an associate editor for the journal Endoscopy, a premier journal in the field. Dr. Khashab completed his medical school at the American University of Beirut and subsequently completed residency in internal medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Indiana University. He then completed a 2- year fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital before he joined the Hopkins Faculty in 2011.

Peter D. Siersema, MD, PhD is Head of the Endoscopy Center and Professor of Endoscopic Gastrointestinal Oncology at the Radboud university medical center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Dr. Siersema is member of the Governing Board of the European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Endoscopy (IF 2020: 10.093). Prateek Sharma, MD, FASGE, FACP, FACG completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Dr. Sharma has been at the forefront in improving diagnosis and management of GI diseases and cancer, specifically in specifically in esophageal diseases, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, advanced imaging and endoscopic treatments. He is a world-renowned physician, teacher, and educator. Dr. Sharma has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. He has over 400 publications, including original articles and book chapters, and is regularly invited to present at major national and international meetings. In addition, he has co-edited several important books. Dr. Sharma has and continues to publish in several high-profile national and international journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Sharma is currently a Governing Board Member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is the past President of the International Society of Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE). Dr. Sharma has recently been named as the chair of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) task force on Artificial Intelligence.

From 2009 he is a full professor of gastrointestinal oncology and program leader of the GI-Oncology department. His clinical interest is upper gastrointestinal tract surgery. He started with robotic surgery in 2003. Research is focused on minimally invasive and robotic surgery, surgical imaging and genetic profiling.

In addition, he is also visiting-professor at the Keio University and Tokyo Medical Dental University. He graduated from Tokyo Medical University in 1991 and had worked in Tokyo Medical University Hospital as a gastroenterologist. His major is diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy in particular in pancreatobiliary diseases by means of EUS and ERCP including balloon enteroscopy-assisted ERCP. Until now, he has outstanding endoscopic skill and has published more than 470 peer-reviewed papers in high impact factor journals on the novel and special techniques and outcome.

Professor Takashi Toyonaga graduated from Ehime University School of Medicine in 1989. He has joined Kishiwada Tokushukai Hospital,Osaka, Japan and finished his residency over many courses and started his wide-spectrum training in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. In 2002, he has started to wrestle in ESD which was just newly developed. He invented the first water-jet emitting endo-knife: Flush knife in 2005 and resected more than 3000 cases in ten years with good results. In 2007, He was promoted as the Director, and Associate Professor of the Department of Endoscopy, Kobe University Hospital. He published many scientific papers regarding ESD. He also works energetically to spread ESD in all over the world and challenge to the limits of therapeutic endoscopy.
