Prof. Philip Chiu is currently Professor and Head of Division of Upper Gastrointestinal and Metabolic Surgery, Department of Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prof. Chiu is a pioneer of minimally invasive, endoscopic and robotic surgery in Hong Kong, performing the city’s first Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) for treatment of early GI cancers in 2004, followed by the world’s first robotic gastric ESD and colorectal ESD in 2011 and 2020 respectively. He is the President of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) among other positions in numerous associations.
